Solso suggests four main qualities that the viewer should note:

• Sensory Perceptual - What are the physical attributes. What do you actually see in front of you.
   

• Psychological Characteristics - What is the overall feeling or mood of the art work.
   

• Schema-Story Aspects - How do I understand this from my own point of view, my own perspective, my own history.
   

• Level Three Understanding - A synthesis of all the the above, which leads to a personally profound understanding greater than the parts of the whole.
