Humanoid skull capacity has increased 300% over the past 4 million years.  As the brain grew larger our ancestors began to make tools, produce and understand language, think abstractly, and make art.  Recently, "homo sapiens sapiens" appeared on the art scene around 120,000 years ago.  Their skulls are larger in the front to hold the frontal cerebral lobes, which some believe make for better artists and art critics.  Debate is still ongoing concerning whether the same holds true for eccentric outsider artists.
